Should you have a product satnav or compass instead of a roadmap? | Ed Roberts

In Episode 66 of Talking Roadmaps, Justin Woods interviews Ed Roberts, senior product strategist at We Are Systematic. Ed explores why product teams should rethink traditional roadmaps, favouring satnav or compass-like approaches to adapt to uncertainty. Key insights include embracing flexibility, prioritizing effectively, and treating confidence as an output of work rather than an input. Ed also shares thoughts on evidence-based design, managing ideas, and using tools like ProductSweet to bridge gaps in innovation processes.

Ed is a partner and senior product strategist at We Are Systematic where he champions evidence-driven methods to create digital products for organizations of all sizes. He is also the product lead behind ProductSweet, which he describes as the best product management tool you've never heard of.

Before joining We Are Systematic, he worked as an analyst, conversion rate optimiser, researcher, UXer, product manager, and team leader.

Currently, he is most interested in ideas – where they come from and how to make them real. Occasionally, he writes or speaks on these topics, which can be found on the We Are Systematic blog and on Medium.

He is also available to speak at conferences, away days, or podcasts, and, if desired, at weddings and birthdays.

Here is an audio-only version if that’s your preferred medium - and you can access it through your favourite podcasting platform if you prefer (Apple, Spotify, Amazon).

In the next episode we are talking to Ant Murphy, Product Coach & Founder of Product Pathways. So watch out for Season 1 - Episode 67!
